Aberdeen is technically one of Scotland’s sunniest cities. We say technically because, while that’s statistically true, it still has to compete with sideways rain, winds that will rearrange your face and the occasional rogue snow flurry in April just to keep everyone on their toes. The bar isn’t exactly high. So, when the weather actually behaves itself, nobody up here lets it pass without making something of it.
Lately, the skies over Aberdeen have been a gorgeous shade of blue – and with temperatures creeping up to match, it’s almost impossible not to think about hosting a sun-soaked get-together this summer. Ian from Bieldside clearly felt the same way, and as soon as the opportunity presented itself he did exactly the right thing with it: threw open his garden, invited 40 friends and relatives round and called Hog Roast Aberdeen to handle the food.
Ian had one priority for his party – that his guests would eat well, feel genuinely looked after and have absolutely no hesitation about going back for seconds. We knew our classic hog roast would check every one of those boxes so, once we’d found the perfect spot in his sprawling garden, Hog Roast Aberdeen’s afternoon was spent doing what we do best: cooking a whole pig low and slow until the skin had turned that deep golden colour and the meat underneath was falling-apart tender.

By the time the carving started, the entire garden was filled with the mouth-watering aromas of roasted pork – and considering the size of the space, that’s really saying something. Like bees to honey, guests made a b-line for the buffet and wasted no time in helping themselves to pulled pork with herby sage and onion stuffing and applesauce, tucked into gluten-free or wholemeal rolls and wraps depending on preference, and made their way through light, summery sides salads and herby potatoes that felt exactly right for the weather.
We’re happy to report that Ian and his guests were extremely impressed with Hog Roast Aberdeen’s buffet. We got some great feedback from the guests and met so many lovely people. So, Ian, if you’re reading this, we’ll come back anytime.
