Hog Roast Banff Celebrated Hobbit Day!

Hog Roast BanffFans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s best-loved fantasy series, Lord Of The Rings, will be aware that the 22nd of September is more than just an average day! Thanks to the American Tolkien Society, this date has been internationally recognised as ”Hobbit Day” for the last 44 years, which encourages like-minded individuals to link up and celebrate their shared love of what is often considered to be one of the greatest tales of all time.

But why the 22nd of September, though? Well, for those of you who aren’t in the know, this special date represents the birthday of two very important characters – hobbits, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, thus the name Hobbit Day.

Each year, LOTR enthusiasts commemorate the franchise by binge-watching the epic feature films, snuggling up with their favourite novel in the series or throwing parties! And this year, our Hog Roast Banff team had the utmost pleasure of attending one of these incredible shindigs thanks to Martin, who had hired our team to cater for his annual get-together.

The party Martin had planned was a small and intimate affair with no more than 30 guests in attendance. But as Hobbits are known for their love of good grub, he was keen for us to prepare an incredible feast for everyone to sink their teeth into.

Meeting all of his demands was our beautiful Alfresco Menu, which included one of our famous pork roasts with stuffing, crackling and applesauce, grilled vegetable skewers with optional halloumi, side salads, creamy coleslaw and buttered new potatoes tossed in chives. Completing the feast were our antipasti platters of Italian meats, cheeses, artisan breads, olives and sundried tomatoes.

The guests, who, in keeping with tradition had come barefoot in honour of the Hobbits, who are known for their lack of footwear, were delighted with the range of foods Hog Roast Banff had on offer. The meal had something for everyone and was cooked to perfection, which made it all the more enjoyable.

Hog Roast Banff rounded off this event by serving summer pudding and profiteroles to the group, who had a splendid time bonding over their love of LOTR and pigging out on all of the amazing food on offer!
